Harry the Hermit Crab

Meet Harry
Harry the Hermit Crab is my first self-published work. Thus far, you can meet Harry in the picture book: ‘Harry the Hermit Crab and his hunt for a home’, and also in ‘A Hermit Crabs Guide to Rockpooling’.
These books were both created as part of my final year university project at Aberystwyth University. They are available for sale in my shop, and soon in local indie bookshops!
‘One day Harry, a young growing crab, found his shell rather tight on his back…’

This book is aimed at children of ages 5-7 years old. It’s bold, colourful illustrations and fun rhyming couplets take it’s young readers on a journey with Harry. The young hermit crab outgrows his shell one day, and takes on a journey to search for a new home. He gets help from fellow sea creatures, and makes friends along the way, but finds himself facing the ocean’s biggest enemy… plastic pollution.
This book teaches it’s readers about the intimidating nature of growing up, and the need to ask for help. With themes of friendship and overcoming challenges, it is a great read for young readers. Along the way they will also learn about plastic pollution, and how to help small creatures like Harry – and his seal friend Celia!

Celia the Seal
The character of Celia is based on a true story of Wings the Seal, click on the button below to find out more!

How was the book produced?
This book was initially created as part of my university degree, for my final assignment for my illustration class. However, I felt this work was special and I didn’t want to leave it behind me as I left uni. Instead, I raised funds through Kickstarter to print and self-publish the book.
